It’s the way I tell ’em

I found it interesting seeing the virus reports for Spain. Terrible – such high numbers. Or are they. I spotted one thing – that some of the maps were much less detailed than the reports from Spain – making it look like much wider spread. The latest data from Spain was not being used. In fact the 7 day rolling average was 4 cases per 100,000 per day. Okay, that is four times higher than the UK. In Catalonia the rates are a bit higher 10 in 100,000. That is about the current rate in Leicester.

It just struck me that the data being presented was having a big influence on the messaging.

I also watched the programme about China and the virus tonight. Fascinating way of presenting information. “A UK scientist” said. This is what I call Mailspeak – the sort of language you find in the Daily Mail. You know, “Reports are…” – “My wife’s cousin, when he was drunk, said…”. When you are part of a story you get used being able to identify language like this. At the end of the programme the real message came out “The Chinese Communist Party must…” Quite a carefully crafted report to point a finger without real evidence of guilt. There is certainly a clear message being sent out about China. I wonder who is giving us the message and why.

Thankfully I don’t know many people that believe Bill Gates is injecting the world with microchips with the coronavirus vaccine. But I do know some.

We heard today that advertising of junk food was going to be restricted – because if we hear things time and time again we might follow them. The tainted truth that comes out of news sources must have an impact on us – and how do we resist.
